Joy, Nicholas
b. January 31, 1884 d. March 16, 1964Stage and motion picture actor. Appeared in "The Iron Curtain" (1948), "Joan of Arc" (1948), "The Great Gatsby" (1949), "Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff" (1949), and "And Baby Makes Three" (1949).

Godfrey, Arthur
b. August 31, 1903 d. March 16, 1983
Radio, Television Personality. One of the first superstars of early television, "The Old Redhead" appeared in two Top 10 prime-time shows - "Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts" on Monday nights and "Arthur Godfrey and His Friends" on Wednesday nights - for CBS at the same time for 81?2 years. Scouts (Dec. 6, 1948-July 21, 1958) was slightly higher rated, reaching No. 1 for the 1951-52 season. The following year, Scouts and Friends were No. 2 and 3, respectively, just behind "I Love Lucy".

Ferebee, Thomas Wilson
b. November 9, 1918 d. March 16, 2000
Veteran of World War II. He was the bombadier on the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.

Terrell (Montgomery), Tammi (Thomasina)
b. April 29, 1945 d. March 16, 1970
Singer. She was the older of 2 children born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Thomas & Jennie Graham Montgomery. Her musical career began in 1960 when she signed with Scepter/Wand records. She recorded a handful of songs there, including "Voice of Expierience" and "If You See Bill." In 1963, on James Brown's Try Me label, she recorded the single "I Cried"/"If You Don't Think." In 1964 she recorded the single "If I Would Marry You"/"This Time Tomorrow" for Checker Records.

Dixon, Ivan
b. April 6, 1931 d. March 16, 2008
Actor, Director. Born in New York City, he is best known for his role of Sgt. James 'Kinch' Kinchloe in the comedy series "Hogan's Heroes". Dixon began his career during the late 1950s, originating the role of Joseph Asagai in the 1959 Broadway production of "A Raisin in the Sun" and reprising it in in the 1961 film version. He also had memorable film credits with "Porgy and Bess" (1959), "Nothing But a Man" (1964) and "A Patch of Blue" (1965).

Pardee Jr., Ario
b. October 28, 1839 d. March 16, 1901
Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Son of a prominent Pennsylvania industrialist, he managed his father's mines after graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1858. When the Civil War broke out, he joined the 28th Pennsylvania Infantry as a captain, but was promoted to major in five months. He commanded the regiment at Antietam. He was appointed commanding officer of the 147th Pennsylvania Infantry upon its formation in October of 1862.

Strong, William Kerley
b. April 30, 1805 d. March 16, 1867
Civil War Union Brigadier General. Wealthy NYC wool merchant. Was in Egypt when the Civil War broke out and promptly went to France and purchased arms for the Union. Was appointed Brigadier General, US Volunteers by President Abraham Lincoln on September 28, 1861 and was in charge of Benton Barracks and the districts of Cairo and St Louis. Resigned his commission in October 20,1863.

Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Mario
b. April 3, 1895 d. March 16, 1968
Composer. He wrote musical scores for the films "Gaslight" and "Ten Little Indians" among others. He was a prolific composer, although much of his music remained unpublished during his lifetime. In addition to film scores, he wrote for opera and ballet and also composed orchestral, choral, chamber, vocal and piano works. A long friendship with guitarist Andrés Segovia inspired him to write a large number of compositions for guitar.

Dewey, Thomas E.
b. March 24, 1902 d. March 16, 1971
New York Governor. As a Presidential Candidate. he was immortalized in the incorrect, often seen newspaper headline in a St. Louis newspaper displayed by presidential winner Harry Truman, “Dewey Defeats Truman.” While serving New York in various legal capacities (1933 to 1941) including special assistant to United States attorney, United States attorney, special prosecutor, and district attorney., as special prosecutor he gained national attention by obtaining 72 of 73 convictions of long time.

b. January 14, 1901 d. March 16, 1971
American born actress. Starred in "Rio Rita" and "42nd Street."

Buckley, Harvey M.
d. March 16, 1898
Civil War Union Army Officer. He enlisted on October 5, 1861 with a commission of Lieutenant Colonel into the 5th Kentucky Infantry - “Louisville Legion”. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Colonel and would resign on the 26th of January 1863. He was instrumental in the recruiting of 54th Kentucky Mounted Infantry and when that regiment was organized at New Castle, Kentucky on September 1, 1864, he was placed at the helm of it with the rank of Colonel.

Richards, Carol
b. June 6, 1922 d. March 16, 2007
Singer, Actress. She is best known for her duet with Bing Crosby on the Christmas song "Silver Bells". She also was a regular performer on the 1950s television music series "The Bob Crosby Show". Her other memorable television credits include "I Love Lucy", "The Ezio Pinza Show" and "The Saturday Night Revue". During her career, Richards performed with such entertainers as Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Russ Morgan, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
